Structure #16

Location: 1586 feet from bottom of experimental section of stream.

Installation Date: 11/11/04

Picture Date: 12/12/04

Comments:  This pair of structures was designed to maintain and enhance stream elevation caused by a multiflora dam (#17) and to capture sediment that will be "liberated" by structure 17 (#16).   #16 is immediately below a deep pool created by the multiflora dam.  The structure is working well, but there have been some challenges preventing piping under the structure.  The downstream flow is well centered in the stream.

Structure #17

Location: 1618 feet from bottom of experimental section of stream.

Installation Date: 11/11/04

Picture Date: 11/28/04

Comments:  This structure was designed to maintain and enhance stream elevation caused by a multiflora dam,  that elevated the water level in a piezometer nest at 1600 ft.  The multiflora bush on the right bank was cut back during construction, which was further complicated by a deeply undercut left bank.  There is considerable tunneling occurring along the left side due to the undercut bank - more upstream backfill is needed.   The downstream flow is reasonably shaped to bend through the turn.
