If the
deer population is left alone then they could destroy
the small vegetation. We could install deer fences in
differnt areas around the county. We could also raise
deer farms to keep them in an enclosed area so that they
don't not destroy a lot of the forest. We have to take
care of the forest so it can grow healthy and strong. If
we focus on the deer population only, then the rest of
the forest will suffer. The forest will provide enough
sustanence for only a certain amont of life, the rest
will die, but that is how the forest and nature works.

want to destroy it or contrl it

What are you planning to
feed the deer in their little area once they eat all
the food? New trees will probably not be able to
germinate in time to support the growing population
of deer.

As the
forest, we are concerned about the overall impact of the
deer. We are worried that once the older trees begin to
die out, there will no longer be younger trees because
the deer will have eaten all of the under story, leaving
no trees to take over once the older trees die.. The
forest will be dead. We can not allow this. People have
been trying to find solutions to our forest problem for
the past decade. The deer are out of control and
something needs to be done! If nothing is done soon,
West Virginia will no longer be “almost heaven.” Instead
it will just be a barren wasteland of dirt and rocks. So
we have decided on a few things that we could do to
control the deer population in the area. These factors
will hopefully prove to make a difference in the
environment of this area. The first thing that could be
done would be to extend hunting season by a few months,
or maybe even for the whole year. And also make the
extended season include male and female deer alike. This
would deplete the deer population so that the forest
could begin to heal itself. Another factor that could be
added to the forest could be mountain lions that would
control deer population and add predators to the area.
The lions would eat the deer, reducing the population,
and we wouldn’t have to worry about over-population of
lions because they would die off as the deer population,
the food source, depletes. Now we go onto some solutions
for preserving the trees in the area. We can encase
saplings in PVC-like pipes. We have found in our area
that doing this does in fact protect the tree until it
is old enough to take a beating from the deer population
without dying. We have been doing this to trees in our
area recently and it has proven to actually help the
trees survive. There are also ways that you can protect
around your house too. Around the woods of your house,
you can place deer fencing, which is a 7-8 foot
plastic-material, around the area in which you want to
protect. You can also induce a chemical smell into the
woods or area around your house to keep the deer out, as
well. These are a few ways that we have decided to try
to control the population in the woods in our area.
Doing these things will improve the state of the forests
in the area, and will allow the under story to grow up
after the older trees begin to die off. Hopefully these
ideas and suggestions from others will make the future
of our forests a positive one and not negative.

Though you provide an interesting perspective, did you
even consider that encasing trees with PVC pipes would
hinder the aesthetic value of the forest, which is own
of the main reasons people move to the country? Also,
with the chemical smell idea, do you really want to
spray your house and land with chemicals? I highly doubt
the deer will be all that is affected by the smell.

How can you put a "substance" on the trees without
harming the other ecosystems living in those trees? You
have to think of the other animals as well, and you have
to think of how the "chemical pill" effects the
environment also like; the ozone layer when burning the
trees for homes, but it is good that you thought of the
downside of putting fences up, and it is good that you
realized the cost problem of the "tree birthing place".
I liked reading yours(one student to an other). sorry, i

Too many
deer cause too many problems, even for themselves. The
number of deer in Hardy County has risen in past years.
The deer are eating themselves out of their own home.
The deer population is getting out of control, and if
the people of this region do not do anything about it
the deer will soon destroy the forest vegetation and
soon the forest itself. The over population of deer is a
hazard to the forests of West Virginia, and to the
farmers who use the land of West Virginia. The deer of
this region are eating all the tree seedling growing on
the forest ground, and without new tree seedlings there
will not be any new trees growing to provide oxygen to
humans and to the other animals on this earth. There are
several ways to prevent the overpopulation of deer
growth and deer destroying the habitat. One way to
prevent the deer from overpopulating and destroying the
forests is to increase the limit of deer killings during
the hunting seasons in the fall. This will prevent more
deer from breeding and producing more offspring during
the spring. By increasing the limit this will provide
more chances for hunters to get more meat to provide for
their families during the winter. Another way to prevent
overpopulation is to fence off all the areas that are
being affected by the deer. Fencing is not harmful to
the deer nor is it killing the deer, the deer will eat
less of the forest and have less of a chance to find new
mates for the fall season; decreasing the population,
and giving the seedlings on the other side of the fence
a chance to grow. One advantage of fencing off the deer
is that scientists get to study the deer, and their
habits, and the scientists get to study the re-growth of
the new forest plants growing in the fenced off areas of
the forest. There are plenty of ways to prevent the
overpopulation of deer without slaughtering them, but we
as humans must figure out a way how the humans and the
animals can co-exist in the space that we have been
given.
