On the chilly, rainy day of October 14, 2023, community members and patrons of the Bolivar Harpers Ferry Public Library came together to plant 6 native trees. Despite the weather, 8 adults and 7 youth volunteers bundled up in coats and rain boots to make quick work of this planting.
Project leader and Youth Services Librarian, Crissy Fesperman, explains that these trees will serve as replacements for trees previously removed due to age and decay. The trees are positioned near a small picnic area to provide shade for patrons.
The planting followed a Tree-tastic Story Time with Cacapon Institute’s Project Manager, Victoria Lusk. The kids listened to a story about trees, learned about tree cookies, and completed a tree-themed craft. Be sure to visit the library to check out more books about trees and to check out the newly planted red maples and river birches!
