Joel Cockerham

Joel started at Cacapon Institute as our Riparian Forest Buffer Coordinator in the Summer of 2024 and is also our certified drone pilot. He grew up in Harford County Maryland, loving the outdoors and being steeped in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Joel has a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries from Frostburg State University, went on to work with MD DNR, NY DEP at their environmental summer camp, and as a line clearance arborist. Joel loves hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, foraging, exploring the outdoors and sharing his knowledge with others. He hopes to share the wonders of nature with others and help them be better stewards of the world around them and in their own backyards.
